Must-have wedding registry gifts

The items you need on your wedding registry

First off, if you’re reading this, congratulations! I’m guessing you’re newly engaged and starting the wedding planning process. Yay, this is an exciting time for you!

As you will soon see, this time flies by. I can’t believe we’re already coming up on our one year wedding anniversary. It has been a whirlwind of a year with work, home renovations and family stuff. Through it all we’ve managed to grow deeper in love, have some fun adventures and enjoy the little things in life.

One thing I realized this year is how appreciative I am for all the generous gifts our family and friends gave us at our shower and wedding. Personally, I am not a fan of asking for gifts and making up our registry was extremely difficult.

Honestly, I felt guilty creating a list of stuff for people to buy us. On the flip side, my mother and mother-in-law assured me friends and family would rather know what we needed than just spend money on whatever.

Everyone is different, but if you are struggling with your registry, this article is for you. We truly appreciated every single item given to us. Yet, throughout this past year, a few items really stood out.

These top seven wedding registry items helped us have our best year yet. They either saved us time and money or simply made our lives easier. I would highly recommend these gifts to anyone creating a registry, looking for a wedding gift for someone else or updating their home.

Ninja Fold-Away Frother Coffee Maker

Our day can’t start without a strong cup of coffee. Instead of spending a ton of money each week buying coffee at a coffee shop, we brew ours at home. This nifty system is an all-in-one can make a single cup, half carafe or whole carafe, plus has a frother for fancier drinks. It’s also relatively compact so it doesn’t take up too much of our limited counter space.

KitchenAid Blade Coffee and Spice Grinder

As you can tell, we obviously love our coffee. In addition to an all-in-one system, we also asked for a coffee grinder so we could grind fresh beans. Although I wouldn’t consider ourselves coffee snobs, you can definitely tell the difference when coffee is freshly ground. Plus, the aroma in your kitchen is totally worth it.

Crock-Pot 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker

Yes, the good-old fashioned Crock-Pot, except it’s upgraded with a digital countdown timer. Set it and forget it for a home-cooked meal when you get home from work or the gym. We love using the slow cooker not only for easy dinners, but also for the way it cooks meat to tender perfection. It’s also great for parties, since you can keep it on the warm setting to keep meals hot.

NutriBullet 12-piece Blender

In an effort to be a little more nutritious and efficient with breakfasts and on-the-go meals, our NurtriBullet blender has come in handy. It’s great for making smoothies, protein shakes and the occasional milkshake dessert. It’s super compact so we can leave it on the counter, plus the cups are dishwasher safe.

Calphalon Premier Space-Saving Cookware

When we first moved in together, our cookware was hand-me-downs from several family members. They weren’t bad pots and pans, but they were mismatched and had some wear and tear. Because we love to cook at home, high-quality cookware was a must for us. Plus, since we are in a small condo, the space-saving stackable pots and pans are incredible.

AeroGarden Harvest Classic

Whether or not you have a green thumb, if you like to cook with fresh herbs, the AeroGarden is for you. It’s a super easy way to have fresh herbs all year indoors. The system grows herbs in a water console with a grow light. You only need to add water (when the display reminds you to) and nutrients every couple of weeks. The best part is it’s compact enough to stay right in your kitchen. Again, since we have limited counter space, ours stays on top the refrigerator.

ILife Robot Vacuum Cleaner

As I’m sure many couples can relate, Cody and I often “rock, paper, scissors” for whose turn it is to clean. Although we live in a small space, it’s hard to find motivation to clean after work and we are usually super busy on the weekends. Hence why the Robot Vacuum Cleaner has been a highly valued gift. It’s programmable and works on both hard and carpeted floors. So it can do it’s thing while we’re at work and we can come home to a clean house.

Final Thoughts

Building your wedding registry can be fun, but also daunting. While there are many, many items you can ask for to help start your new life together, several items stand out.

Over the past year, these items have really helped Cody and I save time, money and energy in some staple areas of our lives. We rely heavily on our coffee in the morning, healthy home-cooked meals at night and relief from cleaning during the week.

As you build your registry, I think it’s important to consider several factors. First, what do you already have and what do you need. If you’re still using items from your college dorm, it might be time to upgrade. Second, where do you spend most of your time and what’s important to you. If you love to cook, asking for high-quality kitchen gear is a must. Lastly, what will make your life easier and save you time and money. Look for items that might seem like a big-ticket, but that will be used daily.

In the end, your wedding registry should be a reflection of the couple you are and what you need most to start a happy life together. If you’re like me, it might be difficult to ask for things, but if your loved ones know you will use these items regularly, they will be happy to purchase them for you.

Again, congratulations if you’re in the process of planning your wedding. Enjoy this time with your fiance and try not to sweat the small stuff. Hopefully this guide will help make some decisions a little easier. And if you need a break, don’t forget to plan some date nights. Check out some of my cheap date night ideas here and here.

  1. It can be hard at first to accept the idea of telling people what to buy you, but I agree that people want to know! Registries are a must! I’ve been married for 10 years and we just recently had to replace the cookware that we got for our wedding. We got a lot of use out of it!
